Patriot Youth Football Growing Strong in Gray – New Gloucester
New Gloucester, Maine – Young pro football fans and fans of youth football will have something to cheer about this season in Gray – New Gloucester.  Not only will there be professional football (according to the latest news) but the area will be celebrating its 2nd year of Pee Wee (1st – 3rd grade) football in addition to continuing with Youth (4th – 5th grade) football as part of the Maine Youth Football League for another season.  New Gloucester Recreation and the Patriot Grandstand Club hosted the annual summer football camp this year at the New Gloucester Fair Grounds – and it was a huge success with over 50 children from 1st through 6th grade in attendance.

The camp featured 5 days of skills training and football education.  The event ended with a parent/youth flag football game and BBQ!  In addition to all the youth and pee wee coaches, High School coach Phil Prideaux was in attendance along with assistants and High School players.  The support from the community was evident as the sidelines were filled with interested parents, siblings and fans of the game.  The Patriot Grandstand Club was very pleased with the event and wishes to thank all the volunteers who worked hard to make it possible.

“Gray/NG doubled the size of its program last year by adding 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders” says Rich Peterson, Patriot Grandstand Club volunteer and Athletic Coordinator for Maine Youth Football. “There is a ton of interest in the game of football in the area, and the numbers prove it.  The many volunteers who keep growing the program are to be credited with the success.  Club President Jon Harmer, Vice President Shad Hall and everyone else involved in the program has been working hard to prepare for the 2011 season.”

The Patriot Grandstand Club has been very active in the off season by electing a new board and selecting coaches for the youth and pee wee teams.  The club also participated in community events, including the Patriot 5k road race where coaches, volunteers and youth/middle school players hosted a Punt, Pass and Kick skills event for over 100 children.  Also, volunteers from the GNG Athletic Boosters and the Patriot Grandstand Club provided meals to over 1,500 runners during the Pineland Farms Trail Running Challenge, a 2-day event held at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester during Memorial Day Weekend.

The Patriot Grandstand Club and the New England Patriots are hosting the annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition to be held at GNG High School athletic field on Saturday, July 30th.  This is a free event, open to all boys and girls ages 6-15.  The event is being sponsored by local businessman Michael A. Liberty and the Liberty Family Foundation.  The snack shack will be open all day and all proceeds from food sales will benefit the GNG Patriots Youth Football program. Children wishing to attend should register now by visiting http://patriotppk.com or http://gngfootball.org – more information about the event is posted on the websites.

Youth interested in participating in Patriots Youth Football this fall are encouraged to register now by visiting http://gngfootball.org as space is very limited.  Any child who lives in Gray – New Gloucester and is entering 1st – 6th grade next fall is invited to join!  The club has introduced a new online registration service to make it easy for parents to register.  For more information visit the website or email info@gngfootball.org.
